"PAINTING PICTURES WITH WORDS SCHOOL PROGRAM"
This programme is designed to encourage reading for pleasure and to stimulate an interest in simple poetry and verse. Terry will introduce students to the N.Z. pioneering days, the back country, and the people, animals and native birds who choose to live there. Through verse and story telling* Terry will demonstrate the importance of developing memory to build a base for learning.
* Material: Suitable for all age groups (years one to thirteen).
CURRICULUM LINKS:
* English: Listening, writing, speaking, reading, viewing, & presenting.
* Possible Contexts:
* A study of NZ poets
* Language through poetry
* Listening & reading for meaning & mood
* Exploring narrative in poetry
* Writing poetry & exploring different forms
* Viewing a live performance (A wide range of English units & follow up activities could be developed from this show.)
Terry not only performs his own work, but also introduces students to a variety of other New Zealand poets. Starting with 'Humpty Dumpty' style rhyming "Molly Morepork"; rapping out "Paddy's Axe"; and galloping thru 100 line ballads like "A Horse Called Horse". Terry soon has students participating in the understudy role with such pieces as Barry Crump's "Bad Blue", or his own "The Creepy Crawlies Keep Fit Network".
IDEAL VENUE REQUIREMENTS:
Your School Library/Assembly Hall for a full day with 3 x 1 hour sessions. Camp fire setting, enhanced with visual props, puppets and murals.
* 4M wide X 2m deep floor space. - 1 x 3 pin power supply. ( setting up time - 1 hour)
Costs:
$650 plus GST = 3x1 hour sessions.
School Years 1-6 - Intermediate Years 7-8 - plus Colleges
Children grouped in similiar ages and ability
Primary School Years 1-8 = 3x1 hour sessions.
Years 1,2,3 together; Years 4,5,6; Years 7,8.
School Resource Pack (Master Copies with no restriction on photocopying) at $20 plus GST.
Published Novel "Barefoot in the Valley", suitable for primary teacher resource, or secondary libraries. (Price: $20.00-Ex.GST)
Mornings Only for small schools by individual arrangement
